Intel Corp. on Thursday introduced a software development toolkit to let commercial software developers and IT organizations develop applications that support RosettaNet e-business standards.
RosettaNet is a non-profit organization that has developed a number of Partner Interface Processes (PIPs) defining ways that companies can exchange data and execute transactions in standard formats. Intel is a major backer of RosettaNet and conducts RosettaNet-based transactions with about 60 of its own trading partners.
The Intel Architecture Software Development Kit for RosettaNet includes support for RosettaNet PIPs for order management, new order transactions, and shipment confirmation transactions, said Colin Evans, director of distributed systems at Intel Labs.
The company's objective is to facilitate fast development of RosettaNet applications by small and mid-size businesses that might otherwise struggle to commit financial
and other resources to transact via RosettaNet standards.
"We felt the biggest impact to the ecosystem was to make it more broadly available," Evans said, explaining that the toolkit is available on an open-source basis from the RosettaNet Web site.
The software works with Intel 32-bit and 64-bit client and server processors, as well as with Microsoft Corp.'s Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.
